US 17 ACE BASIN PARKWAY, SEGMENTS 1 AND 2A
Beaufort and Colleton Counties, South Carolina
Under Segments 1 and 2A of the ACE Basin Parkway project, SCDOT improved US 17 between Lightsey Plantation in Colleton County and Garden Corner (US 17/US 21) in Beaufort County. Almost ten miles of two-lane roadway was widened to create four lanes and a new Gardens Corner interchange, as well as replace four bridges.
Working for SCDOT's quality assurance consultant, FME performed geotechnical design review of the project’s subsurface investigations, bridge foundation designs, embankment designs, MSE wall designs, causeway designs, and settlement data. FME also performed quality assurance inspection and testing of asphalt roadway and plant operations. Testing of concrete, soil, and asphalt was conducted in FME’s AASHTO-accredited laboratory.
