Project Accountant
F&ME Consultants, Inc. (FME) is a full-service geotechnical engineering firm that offers a comprehensive range of geotechnical, environmental, materials testing, and construction services. Working with a broad spectrum of clients, to include government agencies, educational institutions, industrial entities, and commercial and private businesses, FME has amassed valuable experience on a variety of projects. FME is a South Carolina-owned and operated firm that has been in business for over 45 years.
We are growing! Newly created position. Your skills will be utilized to ensure managers have accurate and timely information on all projects. THe position will be our "go-to" for all accounting surrounding a project(s) life cycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Project accounting: (Main responsibility)
- Project (Contract) setup for medium-sized and/or moderate-level complex projects
- Assist the Marketing department with tracking project opportunities
- Assists with preparation of insurance (COI's), and other correspondence
- Maintain job files (both hard files and electronic), update company-based programs
- Communicate with Managers and Owners regarding invoicing questions, reviews, and revisions
- Prepare invoice billing packages for clients, including support documents
- Identify and record unpaid contract billings, following up on any delinquent accounts receivable and/or unbilled costs
- Maintain general ledger of subsidiary
- Review aging Accounts Receivable and follow up on payment/billing discrepancies status with client
- Accounts Payable support for main company and subsidiary
- Extra unique tasks if required
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum associate degree in accounting with 2-4+ years' experience in a business office, or multiple years as project accountant
- Strong attention to detail and possess excellent personality, organizational, and communication skills
- Highly organized and flexible as interruptions are the norm
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to manage ongoing multiple projects
- Willingness to assist others when needed with a positive attitude
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Prior Project Accounting experience a plus
- Demonstrated experience in a similar position in a related environment using accounting software (we use QuickBooks and Deltek Vision)
- Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge
- Prior job cost billing experience a plus
- Passion to always seek efficiencies, improvements to current processes
Target salary range is $60,000/yr to $72,000/yr based on prior experience and skillset. Monday-Friday 8am-5pm in our Columbia, SC office.

Drill Helper
FME has immediate openings for Drill Helpers / Apprentices for projects in the Carolinas. FME's Field Operations Headquarters is located off Exit 65 on I-77 (between Richburg and Chester).
Applicant Requirements:
- Must valid driver's license
- Must have reliable transportation that can get you to work on time
- Ability to pass a pre-employemnt drug screen and random testing at any time during employment
- E-verify required (eligible to work in the US)
- Willingness to learn, work in a team environment, and maintain a positive, strong work ethic
- Ability to work outside
- Ability to lift up to 95 lbs.
- Ability to work out of town when required
- Understand and comply with onsite safety requirements, including PPE

Geotechnical Driller
FME is searching for an experienced driller to work out of our Richberg, South Carolina Operations Center. The driller will maintain and operate geotechnical drill rigs for subsurface explorations. The ideal candidate has experience performing geotechnical borings, is willing to travel and stay overnight throughout South Carolina and North Carolina, enjoys working outside, and is willing to manage driller helpers. The primary duties will be conducting geotechnical borings and maintaining the drilling equipment. FME’s geotechnical work occurs in roadways, offroad on undeveloped property, and overwater from barges. FME drillers regularly perform drilling with hollow stem augers and with mud rotary methods. Rock coring is also a regular occurrence in our geotechnical explorations.
Under Management by our Geotechnical Field Operations Coordinator, the successful applicant will be able to fulfill the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Operate geotechnical drill rig in a correct, safe and efficient manor;
- Maintain geotechnical drill rig including lubrication, cleaning, replace broken parts, and troubleshoot equipment issues;
- Manage driller helper;
- Communicate professionally with geologist staff and engineering staff; and
- Identify unsafe conditions in the field and communicate concerns to the field services coordinator prior to drilling.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma is required;
- Comfortable with outdoor work in all seasons;
- Able to lift 50 lb. of equipment and materials;
- Willing to work independently and proficient at time management;
- Well drilling license in North Carolina and South Carolina or willingness to obtain each within 6-months of employment;
- Ability to track work progress on a daily basis and maintain a legible diary of daily drilling production; and
- Class A CDL driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Geology Associate
FME is searching for a qualified Geology Associate to coordinate and perform drilling operations for subsurface explorations. The ideal candidate enjoys working outside and wants to obtain a firsthand knowledge of South Carolina geology. The primary durty will be viewing, classifying, and logging soil and rock samples obtained during geotechncial explorations. Secondary duties may include rock core descriptions, geophysical exploration, technical writing, geologic research, and field services coordination. FME is seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic about geology and wants to use skills learned in the classroom to gain a deep understanding of South Carolina geology.
Under close mentorship from a senior-level Professional Geologist, the successful applicant will be able to fulfill the following:
INITIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Classify and log soil and rock core samples
- Collaborate with the drill crews on projects
- Communicate with project managers on project details while working in the field
- Assist in geophysical data collection
- Evaluate the subsurface data and correlate it to published geologic maps
REQUIREMENTS
- BS in Geology
- Ability to obtain your Geologist in Training (GIT) certificate within a year
- Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team
- Good driving record
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying field and weather conditions
- Must be willing to travel with periodic out-of-town overnight travel
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours
- Must be physically able to lift 40 lbs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preference Given for One or More of the Following
- MS in Geology
- 2+ years of experience in a similar or related role
- Experience using GINT and/or geophysical collection and processing software
- Working knowledge of GPS location/surveying technology
- SCDOT experience
