SC 802 ROADWAY WIDENING AND IMPROVEMENTS

Beaufort County, South Carolina

The $10.9 million SC 802 roadway project included the widening of two sections of roadway for a total length of five miles. One section is located between Robert Smalls Parkway and Parris Island Gateway; the other encompasses portions of roadway on either side of the new J.E. McTeer Bridge over the Beaufort River, stretching from Ribaut Road to Sea Island Parkway. The roadway was widened to four lanes and included the installation of improvements, such as curb and gutter, drainage, sidewalks, vegetated medians, and traffic signals.

FME was hired by Beaufort County to provide construction management, inspection, and testing services for the roadway widening. When challenges or design conflicts arose during construction, FME provided design modification services. FME also performed pipe inspections on a portion of the newly installed storm drainage pipe. The project was built and inspected in accordance with SCDOT requirements.
