SCHOOL OF LAW
Columbia, South Carolina
Prior to construction of the new $80 million, 187,500 square foot University of South Carolina School of Law, FME provided the University with asbestos and lead-based paint services associated with multiple existing structures located on the project site. With the School of Law to encompass the majority of a city block in downtown Columbia, eight structures were demolished and/or renovated to make room for the new construction. FME performed asbestos-containing materials and lead-based paint investigations within the interior and exterior of these structures, which included two buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places – Taylor House and Horry-Guignard House.
Following the investigations, FME prepared abatement design plans and specifications for the removal of asbestos from four buildings scheduled for demolition, as well as design plans for the detachment and demolition of various additions being removed from the original Taylor House and detached carriage house. During abatement and demolition activities, FME provided project management and area air monitoring services for the University.
