MAO RUNWAY 4-22 REHABILITATION
Mullins, South Carolina
FME performed a geotechnical exploration at Marion County Airport (MAO) to provide information on the existing pavement and subsurface conditions along Runway 4-22. FME’s field operations consisted of cutting asphalt cores and advancing soil test borings along the runway and in adjacent taxiways, as well as the collection of undisturbed and bulk samples.
Coordination with the airport and client were paramount since the airport relies on user fees for operation. FME worked diligently with the airport, so that pilots enjoyed uninterrupted access to the airport during field work. Following, FME conducted testing of soil samples in its AASHTO-accredited laboratory and provided the client with a data report for future pavement rehabilitation design.
