IMPERIAL TOBACCO WAREHOUSE PRESERVATION
Lake City, South Carolina
FME provided construction materials testing, vibration monitoring, and special inspections during stabilization of the historic Imperial Tobacco Warehouse in Lake City, South Carolina. Interior wood framing was reclaimed from the warehouse creating an unstable structure. The project included construction of a helical pier foundation system and interior framing to preserve the building.
FME was responsible for special inspections of helical piers, reinforced concrete, and structural steel. In addition, FME observed helical pier load testing required by the geotechnical report and monitored ground-borne vibrations created by construction activity to help prevent damage to the structure during preservation. Tasks included weekly updates to the discrepancy log, observation of rebar placement, sampling and testing of fresh concrete, observation during helical pier installation, structural bolting inspection, continuous observation during post-installed anchor bolt installation, and visual fillet weld inspection.
