BURNSIDE GRAVITY SEWER LINE
Columbia, South Carolina
FME provided geotechnical engineering for the construction of three miles of 30-inch centrifugally cast fiberglass reinforced polymer mortar (CCFRPM) gravity sewer pipe from the intersection of I-77 and Bluff Road to the City of Columbia’s existing Burnside sewage pump station. Services included advancing soil test borings in the areas of the proposed sewer line to obtain data on the existing soil stratigraphy and performing laboratory tests on the recovered samples to determine physical characteristics of the soils encountered. Using the field and laboratory results, FME developed recommendations for pipe bedding and backfill.
FME also performed quality assurance testing for the City during installation of the sewer line, which included observation of installed sections of pipe prior to backfilling and compaction testing during backfilling.
